6.7 Carbon monoxide poisoning
- Carbon monoxide poisoning presents with very varied and non-specific
symptoms
- Patients with mild to moderate CO poisoning may have headaches (most
common), lethargy, nausea and dizziness
- They may also experience shortness of breath, chest pain
- Gradually, increasing confusion and loss of consciousness may occur
In aircraft, carbon monoxide poisoning occurs in connection with a leaking
heating system, so that carbon monoxide is carried with the warm air into the
cabin.
If you experience any of the above symptoms, turn off the cabin heat and
ventilate the cabin.
A detector to place in the cabin does not cost a
fortune, but just because a brown spot changes
color to black, do not feel confident that you will
detect this.
Instead, pay attention to the symptoms.
