Operational procedures
6.6.2.2 Life jackets
When flying over water where we do not have gliding altitude, the aircraft is
required to bring life jackets on the flight for everyone on board.
If we fly at, for example, 1500 feet, the amount of time we have to get everyone
wearing a life jacket is limited. It is therefore a good idea to take on the vest
before departure. The problem, however, is that when you unpack the life
jacket from the sealed bag, the vest must be sent for renewed approval and
repackaging. So not many people are seen wearing vests when they fly.
The passenger briefing material should explain how to put on the vest.
Remember to wait until you are clear of
the aircraft before pulling the handles
shown in the picture on the right.
6.6.2.3 First aid kit
It is required that an approved first aid kit must be carried on the aircraft. There
are different types:
- First aid kit – contains bandages, splints, plasters, etc.
- MedicalBox first aid kit – contains painkillers, nose drops, painkillers and
bandages.
The first aid kit is sealed and must be repacked at regular intervals.
6.6.2.4 Emergency transmitter
It is required that an approved emergency transmitter must be on board.
The emergency transmitter must be coded so that it transmits the aircraft's
registration.
It must transmit on 121.500 and 406 MHz and must be able to be located by
satellites in the COSPAS/SARSAT system.
