6.10 Runway condition
A new system for indicating runway conditions has been implemented. The
system is used at airports with air traffic control services and Flight Information
Service.
The airport operator assesses the runway surface condition, determines the
runway condition code (RWYCC), and communicates the result in a runway
condition report (RCR) in accordance with the global reporting format (GRF).
Pilots are informed of the contents of the RCR via SNOWTAM or, under summer
conditions, in case of STANDING WATER, a NOTAM, and directly from the ATS
unit, including ATIS.
A runway is inspected when weather conditions or other factors warrant
changes in the runway condition or if pilot reports indicate that the runway
condition differs from the previously communicated runway condition code
(RWYCC).
6.10.1 Method for assessing runway surface condition
The airport operator assesses the runway surface condition for each third of the
runway and determines the runway condition code RWYCC (Runway Condition
Code).
The result is
communicated in a
runway condition
report (RCR).
The standard is a Global Reporting Format (GRF).
Pilots are informed via a NOTAM (for summer conditions) or a SNOWTAM.
The ATS unit may choose to report the runway surface condition for the entire
runway instead of each third of the runway if contamination, depth, coverage,
and RWYCC are the same for each third of the runway.
