                7.5.1.1     Best rate of climb


                Below you will find a graph showing the rate of climb in relation to altitude.

































                Best rate of climb is called Vy.


                The diagram shows that the rate of climb is greatest at sea level.

                Absolute ceiling is the maximum altitude to which the aircraft can climb.


                Service ceiling is the altitude at which the aircraft can climb at a maximum of 100

                ft. per minute (18,000 ft. for this aircraft).




                7.5.1.2     Best angle of climb


                There is a concept called the best angle of climb Vx. It is used when climbing over

                an obstacle.

                You will not reach the same altitude in one minute as if you climbed at the best

                climb rate (Vy).


                The stronger the headwind you climb into, the steeper the angle of climb.

                Vx can be found using a curve of climb rate in relation to speed, given at different

                altitudes.
