Aircraft general knowledge
- Engine running time: normally 2000 hours + running time extension up to
20% = up to a maximum of 2400 hours
- Engine calendar time: 12 years + 20% = up to a maximum of 14.4 years
Whichever occurs first indicates when the engine must be replaced - if the
aircraft is to continue to be used for commercial flights.
If the aircraft is used exclusively for private flights, you can fly beyond the
specified times, as long as the mechanic gives the go-ahead. In practice,
however, the amount of time before it is time to replace the engine will often be
limited.
Also propellers, magnetos and other components have to be inspected, and for
every component there is a Component Card with statements of calendar time
or hours in operation.
8.2.1.3 CAMO and CAO
The Danish Transport Authority is the supreme authority for aviation but has
delegated the work of airworthiness inspections to some approved workshops.
From 2009, all aircraft must have a maintenance program for the aircraft and its
parts, engine, propeller and other equipment, which has TBO (times between
overhaul).
A CAMO workshop (Continuing Airworthiness Management Organization) is a
company that is approved to issue ARC (Airworthiness Review Certificate) for
aircraft.
The CAMO workshop is responsible for managing which parts need to be
inspected or replaced, and when this should happen.
