Aircraft general knowledge
The plates for the flaps and ailerons have pressed grooves to increase the rigidity
of the structure.
The wing tank is part of the wing and is fastened with screws.
The wing placement
on an aircraft can be
as shown here.
8.3.3.1 Laminar airflow
There are lots of rivets in the wing.
On large aircraft, the rivets closest to the leading edge of the wing are
countersunk, while those further back have rivet heads that stick out slightly.
The reason is that it is important to maintain laminar airflow as far back on the
wing as possible.
Here we see the principle of laminar airflow.
If there is something uneven on the wing that
sticks out, the air will not flow smoothly and
uniformly over it. Waves will form in the flow,
and this will impair the aerodynamic
properties.
Dirt, ice, rivet heads can impair aerodynamics.
