Aircraft general knowledge

When the aircraft is rolling quickly and the aerodynamic forces are large enough,

the aircraft can be steered with the rudder alone.

In the illustration here with the
                nosewheel undercarriage, the main

wheels are placed slightly behind the

                center of gravity.

With the tailwheel undercarriage, the main
wheels are placed in front of the center of

gravity, so that at the beginning of the

takeoff, you must first lift the tail of the aircraft using the elevator.

The tailwheel can be steered using rudder pedals. When the aircraft is moving at

speed, you steer with the rudder, which is affected by the airflow.

With a tailwheel aircraft, you have to be quick with corrections to avoid a ground

                loop.

                8.3.5.1 Wheels

Here you can see a nosewheel. It is a complicated construction that makes it easy

to maneuver the aircraft on the ground.

                The scissor joint (torsion link)

                ensures that the wheels and

piston part of the oleo strut do

not fall down when the aircraft

                takes off.
