Aircraft general knowledge

                8.8 Aircraft engines

Here you can see the location of the engine

                on the aircraft.

                8.8.1 Concepts

When talking about engines, it is necessary to know some basic concepts.

                8.8.1.1 RPM (Revolutions per minute)

For the piston engines we use (Lycoming and Continental), it

is approximately 2300 RPM that it is running during normal

flights. The tachometer has color markings. Green for normal

range, and a red line indicates the maximum RPM, which can

easily be exceeded if the aircraft is in a dive!

                8.8.1.2 Torque

                Torque is high at low

                speeds, but when the

                engine gets above a

                certain speed, there is

                not much torque left.
