                8.8.1.3 Engine power

Engines fitted with a fixed propeller (not constant speed) deliver a certain output

                at a certain speed.

The higher the speed, the greater the power delivered.

Power is measured in hp or kW.

The power is found as: RPM * Torque

There may be restrictions on how long time you are allowed to operate the

engine at full power. This will be stated in the “Pilots Operation Handbook”. For

example, it may be permissible to use full power during Take Off and for a

                maximum of 5 minutes.

The performance of ordinary engines decreases with altitude and will typically

only be half at 10,000 feet.

Turbocharged engines can maintain thrust at higher altitudes.

Engines with adjustable propellers are regulated in performance according to

charts of RPM and manifold pressure.

                8.8.1.4 Volume

The volume is the total number of liters of fuel that can be in

                an aircraft engine.

The volume for a 0-320 engine is approximately 5.2 liters.

                The volume is found as:

bore area (piston area) * cylinder stroke *
                         number of cylinders.
