                8.12.2.3 Oil pressure and temperature

Oil pressure and temperature are crucial for the

                operation of the engine.

After starting the engine, the oil pressure is checked.

Oil temperature should preferably reach the green area

                before take-off.

Oil pressure should preferably be in the green area shortly after the engine
                starts.

On the Cessna within 30 seconds, otherwise the engine is stopped again.

                8.12.2.4 Fuel pressure gauge

The electric fuel pump is switched off, and it is checked that

                there is still fuel pressure.

If the aircraft is gravity feed, which is the case for the high-
winged Cessna there is no fuel pressure gauge in the aircraft.

                8.12.2.5 EGT

A sensor (probe) is placed in the exhaust on the hottest cylinder and measures

the temperature of the exhaust gas.

You pull the mixture lever slowly until the temperature

peaks, note where it happens (mark it with the yellow

pointer if necessary) and make the mixture richer again,
                                                 o
until the temperature is 50 Fahrenheit below the peak

                temperature (best power).

Some engines allow you to lean to peak temperature (best economy) during

                flight.
