8.12.2.6 Fuel Flow meter
A fuel flow meter shows the current fuel consumption, and via tables for
revolutions, manifold pressure and flight altitude lean to the correct fuel flow.
Some fuel flow meters show fuel consumption on one side
and intake pressure on the other side (ManPress).
Manifold pressure gauges are used for injection engines.
Power setting is a combination of revolutions and intake pressure (manifold
pressure).
Required, among other things, in aircraft with constant speed propellers.
8.12.2.7 CHT
A CHT (cylinder head temperature) measures the cylinder
head temperature of the hottest cylinder.
If the temperature becomes too high, the fuel mixture
must be made richer, or the cooling must be opened if the
Cowl Flaps (regulation of cooling air that flows around the
cylinders) have been closed.
If the aircraft is used for towing banners or gliders, it must be equipped with
cylinder temperature gauge and you have to monitor the instrument to avoid
overheating the engine. When towing the airspeed will be lower, the output of
the engine will be higher and if you are not carefull you might create an engine
failure.
