SightLife would like to see Ethiopia continue
to grow its volume of transplantable tissue so
that no person need wait for a sight restoring
surgery. When Ethiopia has satisfied its own
waitlist the country has tremendous potential
to also provide cornea to other countries
in Africa that currently do not have the
infrastructure or expertise to provide tissue to
those in need.

You had a chance to visit Eye Bank of Ethiopia,
how did you found/saw it?

I had the honor of visiting EBE in 2016. I
personally have visited over 100 eye banks
throughout Asia, and EBE was one of the top 10
facilities I have toured. The facility is clean, well
planned and operated. Even with such a nice
facility, it was the staff that out shown even the
laboratory. The professionalism and passion
to make a difference in the lives of others, will
stay with me always.

Would you suggest us something that must be
improved soon?

One of the biggest opportunities for EBE is
to continue growing its partnerships with
hospitals and mortuaries, and motivate their
eye donation counselors, which will continue
to increase the tissue available for transplant.
