OKKKKAAAYYY! Pencils of Promise, an
organization that focuses on building schools
and increasing educational opportunities for
children in underdeveloped countries and
Grammy award winning Hip Hop artist Lil Jon
builds two facilities in the West African nation.
The construction included a kindergarten
building located in Asuogyaman District of eastern Ghana and the replacement of a rundown,
rural building.
Before construction began, children attended school in sheds and class would often be
canceled when weather became severe.
To date, the school has admitted 75 of the 200 children in this area who would otherwise not
have access to a safe, clean, and effective learning environment.
In a statement given to CNN by Lil Jon, "I'm all about helping children," he said. "Children are
our future and every child deserves to have an environment where they can learn and flourish
and gain knowledge."
Lil Jon came to fame as a rapper and a DJ best known for hits like "Get Low," "Snap Yo Fingers"
and "Turn Down For What." He won a Grammy in 2005 for best rap collaboration for the hit
song "Yeah!" by Usher and featuring Ludacris.
Lil Jon donated $70,000 to help get the two schools off the ground.
