The M.O.T.S. System or “Multiple Opponent Training Scenar-

ios” was developed by Soke Johnson in 1984 in an effort to
address the need for Reality Based Self-Defense Strategies
when confronted by more than one attacker. With the rise
in gang activity, this has become all too common. Dozens of

scenarios were created based on two attackers, three attack-
ers, four attackers, etc. Some scenarios had attackers with
knives, some with guns, some with attackers to the front
and rear, some with attackers in front and to the sides.

Once the scenarios are learned, students are advised to mix
it up over and over in order to be able to react instantly to
any type of threat. Johnson strongly believes that if you are
teaching self-defense and are not including a M.O.T.S. style

system, you are not providing your students with a complete
              self-defense system.
