• Oppède: Great old stonework is on display in yet another spectacular and very authentic
village. Known as Oppède-le-Vieux, the ancient village is located in front of a wild
gorge. From the upper part of the village, the view of Mt. Ventoux and the lower Alps is
quite nice. A 10- to 15-min steep uphill walk is required to access the lovely Collegiale
Notre-Dame d'Alidon church. The frescoes inside are quite colorful.

                   • Lourmarin: Highlighted by a fifteenth-century castle, Lourmarin features beautiful
Provencal architecture and characteristic narrow, winding streets. The surrounding
countryside is filled with open fields, vineyards and olive groves against the backdrop of
the forests of the Luberon. In addition to the castle, notable sights in Lourmarin include
the Romanesque St. Andre church and particularly beautiful fountains. There are
                       interesting art
                       galleries in the
                       village, too.

                       Nearby you
                       could discover
                       other, smaller
                       villages such as
                       Cucuron, where
the village square is shaded by towering Plane trees, Vaugines, the setting for a decades-
old Yves Montand film and Ansouis, where you can visit the impressive, yet stark
                       chateau.

               Day 3 – Wednesday, June 13: Chateauneuf-du-Pape with Olivier. Today, you’ll meet
Olivier, our lead Southern Rhone wine guide, and immerse yourself in the beautiful appellation
               of Chateauneuf-du-Pape. Called
               France’s most seductive wine (we
               agree!), Chateauneuf is produced
               from a 7,800-acre appellation,
               which has been delighting
               consumers ever since Pope Clement
planted the first wine grapes here in
               the early fourteenth century, back
when the popes were installed in
               nearby Avignon. This diverse
terroir is known for les galettes, which are large stones that litter the vineyard floor and act to
insulate the vines from both the cold and the heat and provide ideal drainage. You’ll spend the
