Day 7: All Aboard The Hogwarts Express! Proceed with Sylvia 1 hr to the Fort William
railway station this morning to embark
on one of the great railway journeys of
the world on the West Highland line. The
train portrayed as the Hogwarts Express
in the Harry Potter Films is actually a
vintage steam train called The Jacobite
Express. Starting in Fort William, the
train stops en route at the village of
Glenfinnan, where Bonnie Prince
Charles raised his standard in 1745.
After crossing the world-famous 14 arch
Glenfinnan viaduct, which has been used
in the Harry Potter movies and offers
wonderful views down Loch Shiel, the train stops at the station, giving you time to stretch your
legs and visit the museum in the station buildings. Beyond are the villages of Lochailort, Arisaig,
Morar and Mallaig. On a clear summer’s day from Arisaig you can see the ‘Small Isles’ of Rum,
Eigg, Muck, Canna and the southern tip of Skye. From there, the train passes Morar and the
silvery beaches used in the films ‘Local Hero’ and ‘Highlander.’ The final destination is Mallaig,
which is the gateway by ferry to the Isle of Skye. You might enjoy a fish and chips lunch in this
busy fishing port before meeting Sylvia for your return.
Back at Isle of Eriska, enjoy a walk through the 300-acre property or try your hand at clay
pigeon shooting. There’s even archery and croquet available, among other activities (extra fees
apply).
Proposed Accommodations: Isle of Eriska
Day 8: The West Coast of Scotland. We
have included a 2-hr private boat tour in the
morning to enjoy the spectacular coastal
scenery and wildlife of Oban, Port Appin
and elsewhere along the shores of Loch
Linnhe, followed by lunch at one of the
picturesque towns (cost of lunch not
included). In the afternoon, make your way
2 hr 30 mins to your next accommodations
just north of Stirling where a game of tennis
might be a good way to end the day.
