                                            Listen to the Wind

                                                   By Haruko E.

When the girl woke up, she first saw a blue sky. She got up, looked

around, and noticed that she was in a small yacht floating on the large lake.
‘‘Good morning girl.’’ Suddenly, someone talked to her. She was surprised and

looked up at the woman standing in front of her. The woman with black hair
was grabbing an oar, and looking down at the girl with a cheerful smile. ‘‘Hi...’’

The girl said with a little voice. ‘‘What she said?’’ This time, the man’s voice
reached her ears, but where is it from? She looked around, but there was no

man on the yacht. ‘‘She just said hi to us.’’ The girl noticed that the woman
held something and talked to ‘‘it.’’ Looking into her hand timidly, and so, the

woman talked to a compass! The girl stared at the compass, then the woman
noticed her gaze and said ‘‘Oh, I have to introduce him! His name is Mr.

Compass.’’ The girl was again amazed and gazed at it, but it looked just like a
compass. The next moment, she felt the yacht shake. ‘‘Oops! Sorry!’’ The

woman turned the rudder with alacrity. In a moment, the yacht again took a
balance and it was like magic! ‘‘Wow! How did you do?’’ The girl asked her with

shining eyes. ‘‘Come on girl.’’ The woman beckoned her and faced Mr.
Compass. ‘‘You see, he shows us the direction.’’ As she said, the red needle

pointed north. ‘‘But not to trust him so much. He sometimes makes mistakes’’
When she said, Mr. Compass suddenly laughed and said ‘‘Yeah, I am getting

older, haha.’’ The conversation sounded really funny and she couldn’t help
laughing. ‘‘Hm-hm, you shouldn’t laugh at me’’ He said, but it sounded like he

had fun. ‘‘Ahem, next, you have to see the surface of the wave’’ The woman
immediately explained to her. ‘‘The surface of the wave?’’ The girl tried to lean

out of the yacht. ‘‘See girl, there is the border of blue and black there.’’ As she
said, the girl saw the border of the wave and it looked like they were separated

as a blue and black world. ‘‘Now, you can know the movement of the wave. And

then...’’ The woman suddenly closed her eyes and the silence spread all over
the lake. The girl first gazed at her in wonder, but she imitated her and closed
her eyes. Whisper, whisper. Rustle, rustle. ‘‘Did you hear?’’ Her voice cut through

the silence. ‘‘Yes, yes! I heard that!’’ The girl told her excitedly. ‘‘Great!’’ The
