English. She had never talked before with foreigners, and her English might
seem weird to others.
Wendy became afraid to speak because she would make wrong sentences
while she talked. Ms. Gain saw her gloomy face and asked if there was
anything wrong. Wendy said carefully to practice caution on grammar
mistakes, what she thought about her English. To her, Ms. Gain said, “You do
not have to worry about that. That is also the process of learning English. Do
not hesitate to make mistakes.” With her thoughtful and firm advice, Wendy
could change her thoughts about language.
After she changed her thinking, she could recognize all the friends and
family around supporting her. And she made a friend named Hannah, who is
also Japanese, but lived in Chicago for a long year. Even though Hannah is a
senior in U.S. life and better at English, she does not indicate words or
attitudes to Wendy and shows how to associate with others in the U.S. While
she made more foreign friends, she thought they were the same as her.
Nevertheless, they have di erent cultures, languages, and experiences. They
are the same human, and there are no di erences between Tokyo friends and
Chicago friends. If they are not her, all of the people she will meet in her life
are strangers. When she goes back to her Japanese home, and when she
grows up, she might meet various people. However, she will never be afraid
about getting to know new worlds because people are all in the same
condition. When she has to face new lives, others should face her world also.
Therefore, this is a story where she learns a method to meet with life. [700
