Advantages of Short cases
There can be little doubt that the traditional case study
method can be enhanced by the addition of multimedia
applications. These applications appear to offer a
tremendous potential for not only achieving the objectives
of case development but also augmenting them. Moreover,
short case studies benefit generally as they tend to have a
greater specificity in the areas they cover and as such have
the knock-on-effect of allowing easier architectural
construction within the interactive application.
Short cases have one major advantage over traditional
cases that is that they can be produced more readily from
current sources such as newspaper articles or online
content. This means that fresh content ingredients are
readily put in place – i.e. currency in Diagram 2. This may
mean that they have a shorter shelf life but do have the
advantage that they can be readily followed up on or
replaced with similar material.
