Ash Wednesday
In preparation for the Ash Wednesday service
here is an idea for kids to do.
Have the kids draw their face on a sheet of printer or construction
paper. Have them include all their features including the color of their
eyes and hair. Cut out a small black cross and have the kids glue that on the forehead of their
self portrait. Explain what Ash Wednesday is and why ashes will be placed on their forehead in
the sign of a cross during the service. It will be a wonderful lesson and they will be prepared
for what will happen and understand the meaning.
