educational example for other workers. For them, as long as they
resist, victory is certain. For BELTAS against the CHP town hall,
for those in DISK and GENEL-IS who are resisting yellow union-
ism, these workers and trade unionists must know that resistance
is the guarantee of victory.

In Ankara’s GENEL-IS trade union, a hunger strike action
is under way in the union’s head office. Two regional chairs are
on hunger strike against the head office leadership of the union.
Because the extraordinary general council that was elected was
used by the union leadership to terminate their function. Now
the union’s statutes order that regional chairs continue to function
until the next ordinary general council. That is, an extraordinary
general council cannot terminate the function of regional chairs.
But in GENEL-IS the extraordinary general council can terminate

their function in this way. Because they are yellow unions ant this
is not the first time they have done this. In Sisli town hall the
mayor’s trade union branch leaders were on the mayor’s side in
the struggle with the trade unionists. While the workers pitched
a tent in front of the town hall, these trade union officials came
to support the mayor.
