for at least two years, workers were left without a trade union. The
BELTAS workers were not able to use trade union competency for
two years, and it is not clear when they will be able to.

This CHP mayor is such an enemy to workers organising in
trade unions that it is not possible to remove obstacles even to

simple things. Like withdrawing a court case. A mayor is free to
start proceedings and equally free to withdraw them. Nobody is
demanding a reckoning. So the mayor could withdraw the charge
and remove the obstacles to workers; organisation. But the mayor
did not do that. As he did not, new demands were made. That is,
the mayor’s obstructions are being magnified.

Bringing our writing here to an end, we want to say some-

thing to the branch chairman Hikmet Aygun who stays in Gazi
neighbourhood and is a reason for BELTAS organising. Today he
was in the court and must implore the judge. He must get on his
feet and resist properly.

We saw him hit the roof in press interviews. Our people say
of those like him that “his mouth is not a bag you can draw shut”.
Making a generous amount of noise.

Branch chair Hikmet Aygun had said that “if you don’t accept
our lawsuit on 12 November, I will show you how we pitch a tent…

” It is easy to sound off. It takes courage to pitch a tent. It takes
belief. Yes, Hikmet, we are waiting… They did not accept your law-
suit. Show us how you pitch a tent…
