At the hearing the lawyer put forward a statement by a witness in
the hearing by workers opened against the Kazova company. That
is, nobody ever knew this witness, or was able to reach him or her
yet somehow a document reached Kazova and this was presented
in court. All this was merely yet more proof that a shell company
was a shell company. It was like a piece of theatre that assumed

everyone to be stupid. Ordinary people of middling intelligence
could see through the trick. But the laws do not, and according
to the law everything was quite in line. Nothing illegal was going
on.

The second hearing was the hearing of the BELTAS work-
ers!

At the start of October, the BELTAS workers who were resist-
ing for the right to organise occupied the CHP Besiktas District
building and they are continuing their resistance. Their demands
were for all the mayor’s office obstructions of their right to organ-
ise to be removed, that is, for the charges pressed against the trade
union of the mayor’s office to be abandoned.

The hearing in this case took place on 12 November. The
mayor had said that he would not pursue these court proceedings,

but despite a promise to the resisting BELTAS workers, pursue
them he did. Moreover, in the hearing he wanted it to be united
with the proceedings opened earlier by the Hizmet-Is trade union
and the Genel-Is trade union. The court postponed the hearing
so that the court file of the Hizmet-Is trade union could be exam-
ined. If the demand for the amalgamation of the hearing had been
accepted, BELTAS-Besiktas mayor’s office and Hizmet-Is, Genel-
Is trade unions would have been plaintiffs against one another.
