Kazova Textile Workers Have Started A Hunger Strike

The Kazova textile workers to get back four months’ wages,
seniority or notice taken from them by their bosses Umit So-
muncu and his son Mustafa Umut Somuncu, occupied the factory

        last Friday.

On Sunday 30 June the workers tried to remove material
from the factory but the bosses complained and six police cars and
a number of plainclothes police prevented it.

The workers suspended a banner from the third floor with
the words “We are on hunger strike until we get our rights”, and
started a hunger strike, announcing “after a complaint from
thieves you obstructed us, you are trying to bring us to the police

station but bring the thieves here and we can solve this”.

months the workers have been trying to obtain the rights taken

from them by the Somuncu family. Most recently Umit Somuncu
denounced the workers to the police and the police are on duty
night and day to stop the workers removing anything from the fac-
tory. The police who suck up to the bosses do not hold back from
using violence against the workers. Because of this behaviour by
the police, the workers declared they would start a hunger strike
on 1 July 2013. They read out a statement about the action, and
opened a banner with the inscription “We are on hunger strike
until we get our rights”. Bulent Unal, one of the workers occupy-

ing the factory, said “We have been carrying out actions for 65
