tion the workers danced a halay and sang Grup Yorum songs, end-
ing the action with the slogan, “Long live our Kazova resistance,
we will get our rights from Umut Somuncu”.
Gaye Somuncu Persists In Not Listening To Kazova
Workers Who Have Gone On Hunger Strike
The Kazova textile workers have been trying for months to
get the rights from their bosses Umit Somuncu and Mustafa Umut
Somuncu, and on the fourth day of their hunger strike they went
to visit for the fourth time Gaye Somuncu, his daughter and di-
rector of communications at Calik Holding.
At 3 pm on Wednesday 3 July, workers handed out leaflets
at the top of a street near Calik Holding describing what they had
been through, later on they opened a banner with the inscription
“We are on hunger strike to get our rights” and as they marched
up to Calik Holding they chanted the slogan “We will not let Gaye
Somuncu take away our rights, we don’t want charity, we want our
rights, we are workers, we are right, we will win, victory will go to
the workers who resist, long live our Kazova resistance”. Here they
read out a press statement.
“Gaye Somuncu had travelled with the Mavi Marmara and
often said she was on the side of equality and justice, and in an
earlier meeting had said ‘I do not talk to my family. I can’t do
