Hello, Region 1, from your Membership Team!

As Membership Coordinator, I am considered the “face” of the Membership Team. I’m who you see at
meetings, on Zoom, and at the podium (whenever that time comes). But you need to know there’s a team
behind me providing support, insight, and another pair of hands. I asked them to give me some ideas for
this Tags and Swipes article. As with any task, they didn’t disappoint. Region 1, I give you…..

Thoughts and Inspirations from the Membership Team!

We’re all experiencing negative fallout from this pandemic; declining membership, and life and health
challenges to name just a few. But I’m not going to let that get me down. My newest mantra is, Strive to
Survive!! To do that I’m going to strengthen my pod of inspirational friends, especially singers!

I think it's important for all chorus leaders to know that whatever their challenges are that we're all
dealing with the same thing and in this together. We're annoyed that we're into the 2nd year of insecurity,
but we can be glad we're here and have a great chorus of friends who love us and the music we love to
sing. Many of us have been gathering, masked or not, mainly outside or in a parking garage. It's not
ideal but it's amazing how much better we sing and feel when we can hear and see each other in
person. Reach out to each other for creative ideas and places that might work. Most of us are dealing
with a drop in attendance and membership numbers. All of us have struggled to encourage folks to try us
out. And then there's the audition which is probably possible in person now! Our patience is being
stretched but we are resilient and tenacious. We hear the statement that something has "gone viral"! We
all want this virus Gone! Let our positive attitude be the virus we share with each other!

As I was gliding along in my kayak feeling the warmth of the sun and listening to the cry of the loons, I
was thinking about how much has changed over the last 18 months.

The life of a Sweet Adeline was filled with Song and Laughter; experimenting on how to learn new songs
faster, better; meetings and sectionals; fundraisers, performances, hustle bustle of Competition
preparation, fitting in extra rehearsals; perfecting the visual dance; celebrations and of course our
friendships.
