Farmington Valley Chorus
It’s Spring and along with the gazillion tulips and daffodils that have popped up everywhere so much at
FVC is new.
We had a new fundraiser this year. HOTS and SONE did so well with the Savers Fundraiser we thought we
would try it too. Marion and Rebecca stepped up as the coordinators of this fundraiser and did an awesome
job. Most everyone in the chorus participated and Marion and Rebecca spent many nights hanging out in
parking lots for us to bring our stuff to them. Marion even kept track of who brought what and bestowed
awards at the end. Cheryl was the winner of the most bags, Betsy was the winner of the most boxes and
Melissa was the overall winner with as many bags as Cheryl and lots of boxes . Her winning edge was she
let the chorus use her storage unit - a Godsend. Rightly so last month Rebecca and Marion were the new
recipients of the “You Are Awesome” Award for their success. With lots of help from Marion’s husband
Dick ( also hanging out in parking lots and transferring stuff from car to car to car to storage unit to box
truck to Saver’s and more) we made our goal.
Though Sweet Adelines is for we women, some of our supportive men of this crazy hobby of ours are just
as much a part of the chorus as we are. Sadly we lost one of the best supporters of FVC in Carolyn’s
husband Bob. He was at every performance/contest he could be … even as far away as Hawaii. It was
always great to see that full head of white hair in the audience. He was Santa at our kid’s holiday party and
always a gracious host of parties at their house. His photos of wildlife on their river and wildlife of we FVC
members on their deck are memorable. He was an expert at quickly fixing costumes backstage at our home
shows, and no one could rival him in curtain pulling. He was the kindest soul, always with a smile and
laugh who made you feel he was genuinely happy to see you. We all attended his funeral and sang deeply
from our hearts. He will be missed.
We have been in our newly renovated Palmer Hall since January but have not put up the risers while trying
to keep the COVID 6ft distance until last month. That experience is new for some of our members. Luckily
none of the rest of us developed a fear of heights.
Two of our members are bringing new life into this world. Rebecca is due right after contest and Mayuko is
due later this year. This definitely brings down the age of our average chorus member. We are so excited
for them and hope they know they’re children will now have 35 new Aunts.
We celebrated more longevity anniversaries. Carolyn has been with the chorus for 25 years, and sisters Barb
and Pat have been on those risers for 20 years. All three have served and are still serving in management
positions for the chorus, Wow! The newbies coming in have lots to catch up with. Speaking of newbies –
we happily sang in Elsa last month joining our fabulous lead section.
Some of our members are doing something new . They joined a mixed chorus named Mosaic in Manchester,
CT. Mosaic participated in the NED Competition recently and placed first In their category and won the
overall trophy. Congrats to all the members of Mosaic.
