Acappella Sounds Chorus (continued)
Back in the fall of 2018 and again in early 2019, we had coaching sessions with Debra Lynn about the Bel
Canto singing technique. This had such a big impact on the sound of our chorus that we since have fully
embraced this technique and have kept working at it throughout the pandemic. Hopefully, there will be
more of these sessions in our future so we can perfect our vocal skills.
Throughout the pandemic have been actively searching for a new Director. But despite our hard work, we
were not yet able to find the person who will take on the challenge and take us to contest in 2023. We are
so fortunate that Tracey remains a chorus member and has graciously offered to keep directing us during
this transition, and helping us back on our feet in the interim.
Though we are looking forward to an exciting and productive year, not all our previous activities can be
resumed. Under normal circumstances, we would be running a concession stand at a favourite cultural
event in our community. This was a major fundraising event for the chorus. Unfortunately, due to the
pandemic, this event will not take place for the third year in a row. Instead, we are holding our 2nd annual
food drive in May. While this is not raising any funds for us, at least we are able to contribute to this much-
needed service in our community.
Of course, there is lots to do going forward. We recruited four (very keen) new members during lockdown,
and we are planning to double up our efforts with a fresh membership marketing campaign to increase our
membership and at the same time convince the members who dropped out at the start of the pandemic to
return by reminding them how much fun we have together and letting them know how much we miss them.
We wish all participants in the Region one competition the best of luck and loads of fun and look forward to
reconnecting with all of you at future events.
