                                From our Education Coordinator

Hello Region 1! It’s spring and there’s a contest season! I certainly didn’t think it would happen, nor (if
I’m to be honest) thought it should! Didn’t see how it could. BUT WAS I WRONG! These past 2 plus
years have been frustrating and I know that this contest has had it challenges, but it is just what we need.
It gives us purpose. And it a time of such unknown, this goal, this purpose, actually gave us life again.

I am so very proud of our Region. When I see how we have hung in, how we have persevered together –
Wow! At first, I was disappointed when I saw how few choruses were competing live…and then I saw
how many were competing by video and I thought “YEAH!! LOOK AT OUR REGION!” I am so
thrilled at our participation! And, another great thing while I’m at it – look at all our new directors! And
look at all the ways we have learned to thrive doing things differently than we used to. “Necessity is the
mother of invention” and we have created ways to stay together, to play together and to keep singing
          together.

I hope you enjoy this contest weekend. I hope you feel you can come to cheer on all the competitors.
It would be great to see you. I’ve just judged in Region 9 and it felt so great to be back at a Regional
where there were people and laughing and singing. LIVE!!! Hope you get to come and slip on that old,
warm robe of the Region 1 community.

SOMETHING TO LOOK FORWARD TO! COLORS OF HARMONY WEEKEND OCTOBER 14-
          16. 2022 is featuring those wonderful Queens of Harmony – MARTINI as faculty! You’ve met Corinna
Garriock who has taught a number of classes on Zoom for us – well now you will get to meet her
quartet! How exciting that they will be coming! They will teach classes and from what I understand
they love to stay up all night singing with everyone, so if you’re not on their floor, you’ll love it LOL.
I think it’s gonna be so much fun. That information will be coming out soon.

ALSO!!! RQA DAY which is August 6, 2022 with Mary Rhea as faculty! You know that this is open to
everyone – not just quartets. The classes are beneficial to everyone! Mary is a Sound Judge and a Queen
of Harmony BARI (ZING). So keep an eye out for that weekend, too.

So I guess I will have to learn to put up that big screen in October….FINALLY!!!

          Have a wonderful summer!
