Emergency Medicine Summary

SJHC ED consists of five separate areas: Supertrack, Ambulatory, Pediatric, Resuscitation and MHESU
(Mental Health Emergency Service Unit).
SMH ED is a regional trauma and stroke centre. In addition, the ED also contains the Rotary Transition
Centre, which is a 24-hour facility that provides temporary refuge to ED visitors who no longer require
hospital care but have no place to go in the community.
The two emergency departments across the network treat an average of 240 patients every day.
