Key Insights Continued

       • Obstetrics represents a large proportion of volumes at SJHC & SMH. There appears to be an

opportunity for quality improvement to shift proportion of vaginal deliveries with intervention at
SJHC. Both sites appear to have high rates of C-Sections. Potential risk implications exist
            given future shift to QBP.

       • There is an opportunity for knowledge sharing of Orthopaedic care as SMH
has a lower LOS for hip and knee. Pathways exist at SMH for 2 day LOS

       • The network will provide a spectrum of Ophthalmology services including large volumes of
cataracts at SJHC; SMH performing Vitrectomy and a small inpatient footprint. SMH does
perform some complex cataracts but is not included in QBP funding.

       • Significant proportions of Neurosurgery and Trauma activity at SMH comes from Central
East which could represent opportunity for Providence to gain rehab market share for these
patient groups; few volumes are sent to Providence currently.
