If You Try To Save Your Life, You Will Die
Luke 17:33 whosoever shall seek to save his life shall lose it;
and whosoever shall lose his life shall preserve it.
Here we have Jesus saying that if we seek to save our lives we
will die. So if I wear a seat belt hoping to save my life then
actually it will kill me for doing that. Or if I go to the doctor for
preventive medicine, or keep a diet that is healthy, exercise and
do other things to prolong my life it will take my life. Paul said
1 Timothy 4:8 For bodily exercise profiteth little: So we
understand by these scriptures that taking care of yourself is
wrong and will actually kill you.
No, this is not what Jesus was saying and it is not what Paul
meant but if you take the scriptures without spiritual
understanding like so many of you do then the meaning could be
misunderstood.
Jesus was speaking of repentance. A repentant person lays down
their life of sin, the life that they truly love. This is a cross to our
flesh and the cross Jesus had to bear made it possible for us to
have such a light burden and an easy yoke to over come by the
Holy Spirit we are surrendering to. Paul was only saying that our
requirement for discipleship is spiritual not physical fitness.
We know that eating Right and exercise is very good for our
bodies and is very important for a long life but no matter how
you take care of yourself if you live in sin the wages of sin is
