        LESSON 1

Writing a poem using mainly verbs

Read and act the poem, ‘The End of the Road’ (see separate sheet). Identify the verbs in
the poem, explaining the meaning of the more unusual ones. Read Acts 17:28 to remind the
children that God has created us so that we can move in many different ways.

Let the children imagine that they are at a Sports’ Centre and give them examples of
movements they can make which could be used to write a poem.

E.g. I went to the Sports’ Centre,
                       I jogged, I swam,
                       I kicked, I jumped…

The poem could be illustrated and written up neatly.

        LESSON 2

Writing a poem using mainly verbs

Draw a mountain and let the children suggest ascending and descending verbs.

                       I scrambled I slithered
                            I climbed I descended
                      I ascended I sank

Encourage them to write a poem describing the ascent and descent of the mountain.
