 To enable the children to place events, people and changes into their correct periods
               of history.

 To provide and overview of the Tudor period.

        Way to Work (Means)

            1. Have a table with the following exhibits or pictures of them:-

                    A Shakespeare play (Shakespeare lived 1564-1616)
 A Globe (Columbus and others explored the world)

 A Crucifix (Britain changed from being a predominantly Catholic country to a
                       Protestant one.)
 Picture of a Tudor house (Black and white style)
 White and red rose (End of the War of the Roses)

 Telescope (Galileo made various discoveries 1564-1642)
 Picture of the Mona Lisa (Leonardo da Vinci 1452-1519 painted it)
 Picture of a Tudor galleon (Ships for exploration and wars)
 Picture of Hampton Court Palace (Home of Henry V111)
 Picture of Henry V111 (He had six wives)

            2. Ask the children if they know how these items are linked to the Tudor period. Discuss
                them briefly.

            3. Give the children a time-line to fill in to enable them to see where the Tudors fit into
our history. Some children may later like to draw pictures symbolising the other
periods, eg Viking ship, Victorian home, Roman soldier

            4. Gather back to show the children a map of Britain, marking Lancaster and York.
Explain that the battle for the English throne had been continuing for thirty years
between two branches of the same family of Edward 111. The House of Lancaster had
a red rose as their symbol and the house of York had a white rose as their symbol.

Therefore the battle was known as the War of the Roses.

In August 1485, King Richard 111 (York) and Henry Tudor (Lancaster, who had never
fought a battle), brought their armies to camp at Bosworth in Leicestershire. King
Richard was killed and Henry Tudor fell on his knees and thanked God for the victory.

One of Henry’s supporters found Richard’s crown in the bushes and placed it on
Henry’s head. He became King Henry V11 – the first Tudor king. The battle was known

as the Battle of Bosworth and brought the War of the Roses to an end. Henry V11
