a) King Henry V11


                         Born in Pembroke in 1457
                         Crowned king in 1485 in Westminster Abbey
                         Five months after Battle of Bosworth he married Elizabeth of York.
                         Had four sons and four daughters – some died

                         Their second son was Henry V111.
                         Henry V11 loved gambolling and music.
                         He encouraged people to travel around the world.
                         He was a businessman and left a full treasury raising money from

                                     parliament, custom duties, fines and forced gifts.
                         He left his son a safe throne, wealth and in peace.
                         He loved to spend (see separate sheet)
                         Buried in Westminster Abbey in 1509


            b)  King Henry V111

                      Born in Palace of Placentia in Greenwich in 1491.
                      Became king at age 17.

                      Tall, handsome, athletic, intelligent but became overweight later.
                      Spent much of father’s money on an extravagant lifestyle.
                      He loved food, banquets, hunting, sport, palaces and clothes.

                      Hampton Court was one of his six palaces.
                      Henry wanted a male as heir so married six wives.
                      Wives – divorced first, executed second, third died, divorced fourth, executed
                         fifth and the last survived the marriage (see separate sheet)
                      Had three surviving children- Mary, Elizabeth and Edward.

                      Became head of the Church of England when the Pope refused to let him
                       divorce Catherine of Aragon.
                      In 1522 he went to war with France. He ‘emptied men’s pockets’ with taxes to
                       pay for it.

                      The Mary Rose was one of his war-ships.
                      He sold off land which monasteries owned.
                      Died in 1547; buried at Windsor.  Edward, aged nine became king.

            c)  King Edward V1


                      Born in 1537; his mother died twelve days later.
                      Became king when only nine years old in 1547. Ministers ruled for him.

                      Edward had tuberculosis and died aged 15.
