                                                    SENTENCES

                  God desires that good relationships be formed through honest and accurate
                    communication.


                  Review - some sentences are statements; some are questions; some are
                    instructions / commands; some are exclamations.

                  Introduce conditional sentences which have two clauses.


                  Conditional sentences are useful for suggesting what may happen in the
                    future.


                  Compare formal and informal sentences.

            Way to Work (Means)

                 1.   Review the last lessons.


                 2.  Let the children take sentences (see separate sheet) out of a box to say
                     whether they are statements, questions, instructions / commands, or
                     exclamations.


                 3.  Discuss the punctuation required at the end of each kind of sentence.

                 4.  Introduce a conditional sentence.

                           E.g.    If I pass my exams, I may go to university.

                                  If we obey our parents, the Bible says that we will be blessed.

                 5.  Talk about formal language used for a variety of purposes. Let the children
                     simplify the sentences.

                           E.g.   You are requested to refrain from walking on the grass.
                                  Trespassing is forbidden.

                                  The proprietor accepts no responsibility for stolen property.
                                  Parking is prohibited.

                 6.  Let the children attempt the worksheet.
