                                       ACTIVE AND PASSIVE VERBS 2

                  Acts 17:28      ‘For in him we live and move and have our being.’

                 Review teaching on active and passive verbs.


                 Active sentences state that someone (subject) is doing (verb) something
                    (object).


                 Passive sentences state that something (object) is being done (verb) to
                    someone (subject).

            Way to Work (Means)


               1.  Review the previous lesson.

               2.  Talk about passive sentences describing something (object) is being done
                   (verb) to someone (subject). Give lots of examples by drawing a box on the

                   board:-

                                                               Subject        Verb           Object

                  Mum cooked lunch.                            Mum            cooked         lunch
                  Samuel kicked the football.                  Samuel         kicked         football
                  Today we have art lessons.                   We             have           art lessons


               3.  Repeat with passive sentences.

                                                               Subject     Verb              Object

                  The whistle was blown by the referee.  referee           was blown         whistle
                  A bicycle was ridden by Chris.               Chris       was ridden        bicycle
                  The garden was dug by the gardener.          gardener  was dug             garden


               4.  Let the children work in pairs to read the story of the paralytic who was let
                   down through a roof by his friends (Luke5:17-26). Let one of the children be
                   the paralytic and describe what was done to him (passive) whilst the other
                   child is one of the friends who actually performs the actions (active).
