“The Lab work is done.”
“Awesome. I'll keep you apprised as soon as I hear from the Lab.”
“Okay. Thank you.”
“You're welcome, Mr. Thomas. I’ll get back to you as soon as I hear from the
Lab.”
“Alright. I look forward to hearing from you.” The phone clicks off at the other
end. He reaches and increases volume on the radio. Soon, he starts reminiscing and
smiles at an upbeat song -- playing -- on the radio. Next, he cranks the ignition, looks
over his right shoulder as he backs out, and slowly pulls out of the parking lot and
drives off. Then he takes the Old Alabama Road, to Medlock Bridge Road, through
Rock Mill Road, onto Haynes Bridge Road, and subsequently to GA-140 SE (Holcomb
Bridge Road) in Gwinnett County.
However, twenty minutes on the road -- his smartphone starts buzzing -- just
about the typical close of bankers' hours. He glares and takes the call after
recognizing the number on the Caller ID. “This is Alonzo Thomas,” placing the caller
on speakers.
“Hello, Mr. Thomas.”
“Yes, Mrs. Carter.”
“Good news, your lab results came back.”
Alonzo gradually reduces the speed and listens attentively.
