“Awesome ...” getting on her feet. “... Please, excuse me for a moment while I
get these to Carmen.” She steps away toward the front Office. Alonzo seizes the
opportunity to glance through the Foundation's Primer.
She returns with his U.S. passport and social security card. “Here are your
documents, Mr. Thomas.” “Also, here’s the Referral Form and address of the Lab the
Foundation uses for all its lab work.”
“Thank you.”
“We will talk more about your start date after your lab results ...” standing up.
“... Again, welcome to McDaniel Foundation.”
“Thank you. I will let you know as soon as the Lab work is done.” With both
his padfolio and the Foundation's Primer in his left hand, he gets on his feet --
extending his right hand. They shake hands. And Alonzo makes his exit.
Later -- about an hour -- Alonzo exits the Clinic. With the receipt for his
urinalysis (UA) in hand, he paces to his Jeep. He unlocks, opens the door, climbs in,
and shuts the door. He waits for an R&B song playing on the radio to finish before
punching the number 9 on his smartphone. He hears it ringing on the other end and
waits.
A couple rings later, “Debra Carter speaking.”
“Yes, Mrs. Carter ...” he pauses. “… It’s Alonzo.”
“Yes, Mr. Thomas?”
