The truth of the matter it's very hard to start over. When you think about the
time and energy you put into a career -- including the late hours, perseverance and
the sweat -- you're left longing to keep hoping against hope. So, each time you think
about looking, preparing and applying for a less-challenging, subsequent lower
position, you're forced to look in another direction. Truth be told, the job market is
appalling. Those who manage to get to the top don't want to leave, unless for some
unforeseen circumstances they get sick, die or become incapacitated. In a society that
values what you do more than who you are, many get stuck on holding on to the
memories of the past, rather than rolling their sleeves and taking a less challenging
and less rewarding job.
Wait! Don't do it. Don't be like that. Instead, you must realize no situation is
permanent -- meaning -- any position or situation you find yourself is temporary. In
the eloquent words of my mother (May God Rest her soul), "nothing lasts forever."
Therefore, consider yourself lucky that you woke up this morning, in good health,
and have a career (or job); tomorrow may be different.
Today is a gift, a 'present,' we need to show appreciation for; yesterday is gone
and never again to be; and tomorrow, who knows what it will bring. Why not enjoy
the present today, rather than puffing and gnashing your teeth? In the words of Tom
Joyner (Syndicated radio Show), having an ADT is like drawing a line in the sand.
Likewise, you need to have expectations and standards. Keep them as low, or as high
as you want. So, stop looking at me, or another man, in a funny way when a boy
breaks your heart because you couldn't hold your emotions in check. Now, you
expect every decent and loving man to pay for the crazy kinds of stuff you knowingly
allow a boy to do to you. While you're at it, maybe men should start treating and
looking at you like the moron you are. For example, it would be unconscionable to
treat a man with disrespect, rather than respecting and loving him for who his is
because another man (no relation whatsoever to this man) acted a fool. Who knows,
