Give credit to whom credit is due. For fifteen months, I struggled, unable to
plant a solid footing on anything, and everything I laid hands on seem impossible.
Gainful employment in my chosen career eluded me, except for driving for Uber.
Nonetheless, I never stopped pounding the pavement -- seeking -- for a career in my
chosen field; I am passionate about students and working with them to achieve their
dream is a vision.
The moral here -- every now and then -- it may take us a significant amount
of time to discover all the answers to some, if not all, we have been searching. At
other times, those answers may come as soon as we put time and effort, but I suspect,
all things been equal, the answers are forthcoming. Whether we like it, or not, nature
has its way of bringing everything to fruition. It may not be when we want it to take
place, but it happens. Take, for example, the fact that some of us are early bloomers
while others are late bloomers. One may say, with all my early accomplishments and
excelling well above my age mates, that I'm an early bloomer; however, with the
September 2014 mayhem, I'd say we are all in the same boat. Who is to say some of
the folks I left behind in 1979, in that cloud of dust, have not caught up, or even
surpassed me while I was in a downward spiral.
Nevertheless, we still need to encourage ourselves to work smarter, preserve
and save for the rainy day so that when the time and right opportunity presents itself,
we are in a better position to grab the opportunity head on. Post my journey, some
people asked, how is it I could overcome my adversities -- considering having been
at the top of my game? Without hesitation, I respond thusly:
Being at the top, the bottom, or any other position, is fluid. Rather
than dwelling in the position, or status quo, be proactive, creative
as well as have an eye for new opportunities.
