▪ $27.5 billion for health care, supplies and O.T.C medicines.
▪ $6.6 billion for live animal purchase and other services.
_________
$55.7 billion for 2013 alone: A whopping $27.5B just for their pets’ health care
services; however, some are crying foul over President Barack Obama’s
Affordable Health Care Act (ACA) Universal Health Care program for humans
(our fellow Americans).
A final irony, which is good news for animal lovers, animal experts are
estimating that Americans would surpass the $61 billion annual spending on their
pets [Castillo 2015]. Way to go brethren! Or better yet, Way to go Christians!! Though
it’s a good thing that we are humanizing our pets, it would be an even better thing, if
people could care for their brethren as deeply as they do for animals. I’m afraid that,
in a not-too-distant future, there would be more healthy pets than there are people.
However, regardless of how well-fed and healthy these pets are, they cannot care for
their owners when these people experience an emergency or die. In my lifetime, I’m
yet to see a dog or cat that digs a six-foot grave and lowers a coffin; then covers it up.
Only humans do that for other humans. Not dogs, not cats, and heck; not birds or
reptiles. Instead, these animals may devour the decaying corpse.
Not that I really care about receiving hate mails, but before haters start their
smearing campaign, let it be known from get-go, I don’t hate animals; they serve their
purpose. However, I do not believe pets need to have weekly spa treatments when
there are Millions of Americans who don’t know when and where their next meal is
coming. For example, in Lafayette, Louisiana, an average pet spa treatment -- bath,
nail trim and ear cleaning -- for a half-hour session is $41.00 for short coat, and
$48.00 for long coat (based on three pets’ spa treatment locations). And without a
doubt, the cost climbs higher for additional amenities.
