BRIEF LIVES
BRIEF LIVES
JIM (SHANE) NISBET
JIM (SHANE) NISBET
It is with immense personal sadness that I announce the passing
of two stalwarts in the development of the English Short Mat Bowl-
ing Association. Jim (Shane) Nisbet passed earlier in the year.
Jim, or Shane as we knew him was a former President of the
ESMBA and did other work on the committee.
After his ESMBA days he eventually moved to Dumfries with
his partner Gwen Curtis, the former Secretary of the ESMBA.
Gwen sadly passed away 4 years ago, which hit Jim very hard in-
deed. I have certainly missed our Dumfries dinners, reminiscing
about the earlier years of the ESMBA and the England team. My
visits to Dumfries will never be the same again.

The following was written by his son Mark Nisbet. James Marr Nisbet was born 3-3-
1946 in Kilwinning North Ayrshire, and became father to Mark Nisbet, stepfather to Tony,
Alan, Mandy and brother to Wilma. He Joined the RAF at 17 as a paint sprayer and went on
to establish his career in painting decorating after leaving the RAF.
He started bowling for Doddington short mat club in Cambridgeshire and helped form
the County Association with Roy Everitt. He went on to play for England and later was on the
England Short Mat Management committee.
James moved to Dumfries 2003 where bowling was more of a hobby and spent 4 years
employed by Marchmount bowling club in Dumfries as the head green keeper. After losing
his partner Gwen to cancer in late 2010, James was also diagnosed with cancer September
2011. After a long 8 hour successful operation in January 2012 James made good progress
until we learned the cancer had returned in March 2014 James finally lost his battle to cancer
7april 2014 and is sadly missed by all who knew him.

ROY EVERITT
ROY EVERITT
Little did Mark Nisbet realise that after he wrote the obit-
uary on his dad that Cambridgeshire’s Roy Everitt was also to
subsequently pass away. Roy was a former Chairman of the
ESMBA and was especially involved in the late 80’s and early
90’s when we worked together on the development of the
ESMBA.
Roy also did immense work in the creation, development
and growth of the Cambridgeshire County Association. It
seems that Cambridgeshire has lost two of its major founders
in a very short space of time. I last saw Roy at the funeral of
John Scott, another former ESMBA official, after which we lost
contact, as happens in life. I did approach Cambridgeshire
SMBA for an obituary but I never got a reply
