Heatherlands, fielding a strong team, all Dorset Premier players, made the early running, 33
but by the final round robin, only 3 points separated the first four teams. The two finalists,
Heatherlands and Wonford, finished equal on points with Heatherlands just one shot ahead.
Last year’s runners-up, Blackmore Vale League Division 1 Champions, Templecombe, were
third, just one point behind.
Hazelbury Bryan, runners-up in the Blackmore Vale
League, finished fourth, a point behind. Heather-
lands won both the Best Triple with Tony Carr, Paul
Gough and Sam Harvey and also the Best Singles
with Mark White. Keith Honeybun & John Beckford
(Hazelbury Bryan) won the Best Pairs.
In the 6 of the best final, Wonford’s Pair of
Shirley Parnell and Simon Pridham soon estab-
lished a winning lead over the Heatherlands Pair.
Though James Smith of Wonford had lost his earlier
Singles to Mark White, he started well and Mark lost
out in the end chasing the game.
This gave Wonford a winning lead, but Sam
Harvey’s Heatherlands Triple scored a consolation
The Best Pair victory, giving a final scoreline of 4-2.

Four teams from both Devon and
Somerset, three from Dorset and
Westbury from Wiltshire, played four
games each, the winner being the
team with the most points.
The winners for the last two
years, Hadspen, lost their first game
throwing the competition wide open.
By the final round three teams were

set and Colyton from Devon, by
chance were playing each other in the
final round. However, despite a thumping
15-3 win in their last game, the Motley
Crew’s shot difference was still inferior, so
the winner of the Odcombe v Colyton
game would take the trophy.
Despite losing three shots on the first
end, Odcombe established a good lead
with skip Dave Collins outstanding. How-
ever, Colyton fought back and though by
the last end they still needed a handful of
shots to win, they played a good end and
pressurised Odcombe, who only narrowly
Open Triples Runners-up Motley Crew squeaked home by a single shot.
