Cerne Abbas Charity Competitions 2014
Cerne Abbas SMBC held its two annual charity competitions, the ‘Six of the Best’ and the
Cerne Open Triples, on consecutive days over a weekend. This year’s nominated charity was
Weldmar, a local cancer charity. A total of about £1,800 was raised for this worthy cause mainly
from these two competitions and a popular crossword. The club would like to thank all those
who contributed so generously, participated and assisted.

‘Six of the Best’ Competition
This year’s six teams comprised Hazelbury Bryan and first time participants Heatherlands,
from Dorset, three-time winners Templecombe and Hutton from Somerset, 2011 winners Won-
ford from Devon and a late replacement for the holders, Skewen, from near Swansea, were
unable to defend their title due to unexpected late transport difficulties and a team representing
the Yeovil & District League stepped in. The unusual competition format comprises three
rounds of Singles, Pairs and Triples, the top two teams qualifying for the final.
