They did manage to recover £8.90, but they can’t explain where
the rest has gone, have denied any liability, and refused any help,” 11
Dykes says. “To be honest, we want to publicise this problem so
that other groups don’t go through what we have had to. We have
implemented dual sign off on invoices and security checks to avoid
any repercussions, and suggest others do the same.”
ED - I know Bowls clubs do not deal with large sums but
they can be connected to outdoor clubs or community cen-
tres etc. I have included the above article to show how people
can be duped. I regularly get emails that I simply delete with-
out even looking twice at and they often look very convincing.
If you ever get one simply call the club officials to check the email (or letter/invoice) is
genuine. Also check with your own finances as well. The fraudsters are very clever!!!!!
One of the really clever tricks is when the ring you purporting to be your bank. They
then advise you to call your bank to check who they say they are. However, they are
somehow able to lock your telephone line so that when you call your bank you are really
back to them and they say everything is fine. If you ever get a call like this from your
bank use another telephone to call your bank NOT the phone the scammers have called
you on. People have lost large sums of money to this type of scam. I am a trusting soul
generally but I have learned not to conduct any telephone transactions and I rarely use
on-line banking. I would never authorise ANY transaction over the phone whatsoever.
The Farmer
The Farmer
One day a farmer's donkey fell down into a well. The animal cried
piteously for hours as the farmer tried to figure out what to do. Finally,
he decided the animal was old, and the well needed to be covered up
anyway, it just wasn't worth it to retrieve the donkey.
He invited all his neighbours to come over and help him. They all
grabbed a shovel and began to shovel dirt into the well. At first, the
donkey realized what was happening and cried horribly. Then, to ev-
eryone's amazement he quietened down.
A few shovel loads later, the farmer finally looked down the well. He was astonished at
what he saw. With each shovel of dirt that hit his back, the donkey was doing something amaz-
ing. He would shake it off and take a step up.
As the farmer's neighbours continued to shovel dirt on top of the animal, he would shake
it off and take a step up Pretty soon, everyone was amazed as the donkey stepped up over the
edge of the well and happily trotted off!
Life is going to shovel dirt on you, all kinds of dirt. The trick to getting out of the well is to
shake it off and take a step up. Each of our troubles is a steppingstone. We can get out of the
deepest wells just by not stopping, never giving up! Shake it off and take a step up.
Remember the five simple rules to be happy:
1. Free your heart from hatred - Forgive.
2. Free your mind from worries - Most never happen.
3. Live simply and appreciate what you have.
4. Give more.
5. Expect less
NOW - Enough of that rubbish - The donkey later came back
and bit the sh** out of the farmer who had tried to bury him. The
gash from the bite got infected, and the farmer eventually died
in agony from septic shock. MORAL FROM THIS LESSON -
When you do something wrong and try to cover your ass, it al-
ways comes back to bite you.
