Held at The Village Hall, The Tye, East
Hanningfield, Essex, The Fours Short Mat
Bowls competition is held in memory of
Eileen Killington. Twenty teams entered
and played on four mats. Each game was
played over seven ends to a time limit, so

It was an early start for some, with the first games starting at 8:30am. Mats One and Two saw
some close games with: Group A Springhouse beating Peggy’s Mob 5:4; Group B Outwood
Common Bowls Club 2 beating East Tilbury 8:7; Group D Stowmarket Town (Only just Stow-
market Town as only Malcolm Bailey was able to make it.
So, subs Nigel Reed, of Woodlands and the Peters Skippen and Cooper of Whitehall stood
in) beat the 3Gs (Three Generations of the Wade Family) 8:6 and; Group C Wind in the Willows
had a comfortable 11:2 win over Rochford.
The next set of games resulted in wins for: Canvey Island Football Club 2 over South Ben-
fleet & Canvey, 9:1; Ramsden Bellhouse 1 over
Courage 8:2; Outwood Common Bowls Club 1 over
Hatfield Peverel 6:3 and; East Hanningfield over 3
Degrees 8:6. The third set of games completed the
first round for all teams.
But included the second game for some, so
Group B Canvey Island Football Club 1 beat Out-
wood Common Bowls Club 2, Group A, Island best
Springhouse 6:4, Group D 3Gs beat Ramsden Bell-
house 2, 10:1.
There was no let-up in the competition. Other
notable results in the rounds were: Springhouse
Finalists Island
beating South Benfleet & Canvey 12:2 and Canvey Finalists Island
Paul and Christine Reed,
Island Football Club 2 11:2; Canvey Island Football Paul and Christine Reed,
Shirley and Phil Banner.
Club 2 beating Island 16:2 ; Ramsden Bellhouse 1 Shirley and Phil Banner.
beating Outwood Common Bowls Club 2, 16:0; Ramsden Bellhouse 1 and Stowmarket Town
were the only teams to win all of their group games.
All rounds completed the Group results were as follows:
Group A: 1. Springhouse; 2. Island; 3. CIFC2; 4. Peggy’s Mob and; 5. S Benfleet & Canvey.
Group B: 1. Ramsden Bellhouse 1; 2. East Tilbury; 3. CIFC1; 4. Courage and; 5. OCBC2.
Group C: 1. Wind in the Willows; 2. Rochford; 3. OCBC1; 4. Hatfield Peverel and; 5. Wickford.
Group D: 1. Stowmarket; 2. East Hanningfield; 3. 3 Degrees; 4. 3Gs 5. Ramsden Bellhouse 2.
The results of the Quarter Finals were: Springhouse (Connie, Derek and Chris Coates of
Springhouse and Emily Poulter of Ramsden Bellhouse.), Winners of Group A, lost 1:13 to
Rochford ( Celia and John Pavitt, Janet and Alan Berrecloth) Runners Up in Group C; Ramsden
Bellhouse 1 (Steve Jordan, Stuart Bell, Kay and Peter Debenham,) Winners of group B, lost 3:8
to East Hanningfield (Dave Wood, John Pye, Dave and Matt Sifford), Runners up of Group D;
Wind in the Willows (Honey and John Bleach, Doreen Thompson and Neil Paul), Winners Group
C, lost 5:6 to Island (Christine and Paul Reed and Shirley and Phil Banner)
