The last round saw Stephen Gale and Lawrence Moffat locked in battle, with Lawrence 21
taking two on the last end for a 13 - 13 draw. The most important game saw Andrew
Evans facing England’s Craig Burgess in his next game with a win guaranteeing a cham-
pionship victory and he duly won for Wales by 15 - 7, This also left Craig Burgess without a
point, something that no other England player has ever done. For Wales this was their ninth
Singles title, a record second only to Ireland’s 11, with England having won 4 and Scotland 2.

                         IRELAND
The Irish pair of Ryan O’Neill & Leigh
Harrison started confidently with an 18
            - 10 win over Scotland’s Kenny
            McPherson & Chris MacKinnon.
The other first round game saw
the England pair of Chris Willies &
Kevin Pinkawa lose a disastrous game
            by 11 - 9 against the Isle-of-Man’s Jill
            Quayle & Moira Anderson.
The Isle-of-Man pair did not fare
so well in their next match, losing 18 -
            6 to Scotland’s Kenny McPherson &
Chris MacKinnon. The England pair Winners Ireland’s Ryan O’Neill & Leigh Harrison
continued on their disastrous run, ESMBA President George Clark and Welsh run-
being dumped 16 - 7 by Wales Ceri ner-up Ceri Jones & Graham Davies
Jones & Graham Davies, after England
had conceded eight shots over the closing four ends.
Ireland faced the Isle-of-Man in their next match with Ryan O’Neill & Leigh Harrison taking
no prisoners in a 31 - 4 win, scoring 13 shots over the closing five ends. Ceri Jones & Graham
Davies kept up their winning sequence and despite dropping a three on the last end they beat
            Kenny McPherson & Chris MacKinnon 14 - 9. Next the Welsh pair scored a big 21 - 6 victory
over the Isle-of-Man, Whilst Ryan O’Neill & Leigh Harrison for Ireland beat England’s Chris
Willies & Kevin Pinkawa by 13 - 8, which was a better performance from the English duo.
The English pair then went on the record their only victory in their last match with a 22 - 4
win over Scotland. The most important game was between the two unbeaten sides, Wales’ Ceri
Jones & Graham Davies faced Ireland’s Ryan O’Neill & Leigh Harrison. This turned out to be a
cracker of a game and worthy of effectively being a final.
At one point the Irish pair led 6 - 1 after for ends but by end eleven the scores were level
at 9 all. Ends eleven and twelve then proved crucial with the Irish pair taking consecutive three’s
to lead by 15 shots to 9. The Welsh pair bounced back taking the last two ends but could only
score two two’s giving Ireland a 15 - 13 victory and with it the Pairs Championship. Ireland has
dominated this event and this was their seventeenth victory, with England six, Wales three and
            Scotland one.
