England’s only winning rink was a 9 - 6 result from Dominic Reed, Ste Tinsley, Paul Goodman
& Jason McLean. They won just four of the ten ends, including a four and a three, whilst con-
ceding only singles. The main difference between the two teams came from the rink of Andrew
Hudson, Jonathan Gladstone, Dorian Hudson & Lisa Rees who won 12 - 6 that totalled the 6
shot overall difference on the whole match but what really hurt was the four that John Manley,
Jon Pitcher, Anthony Faultley & Stephen Proctor dropped on the last end of that game.
Also winning for Wales, Peter Rees, Allan Slattery, Edward Rees & Henry John won 8 - 6
whilst Stephen Williams, Luke Haddon, Chris Martin & Michael John won 9 - 8. This was the
second year in a row that Wales have beaten England and I feel sure that if the Welsh got up
for their games against the Irish in the same way they would have won more championships.
In the other match Ireland were dispatching Scotland 56 shots to 30. Best for Scotland
came from Jock Black, Lawrence Moffat, Bob Barr & Yvonne Huddleston who led 11 - 8 going
into the last end but a three to Colm McHugh, Pauline Beattie Mark & Jonnie Wilson meant an
11 all draw. For Scotland Jill MacKinnon, Dave Harrigan, Dennis & Alan Eddie fought a good
game but eventually lost 13 - 9 to Colm McHugh, Pauline Beattie Mark & Jonnie Wilson. Ireland’s
best results were two identical 16 - 5 wins from PJ McCrossan, Alan Morrison, Kevin & Gerard
Conroy and Ryan O’Neil, David Morrison, Raymond & Gordon Stubbs.
In the next round Scotland were pitched against England, who had been stung by their
defeat to Wales and thus romped home 63 - 15 for a 48 shot win. Half of this difference came
from just one game with Roger Wiggins, Ben Pay, Peter Hore & AJ Brown scoring a stunning
27 - 3 victory, including 16 shots over the last four ends. David Wiggins, Matt Sifford, Michael
Ivings & Jacinta Townend weighed in with an 11 shot win by 15 - 4.
Also winning by 11 shots Dominic Reed, Ste Tinsley, Paul Goodman & Jason McLean won
13 - 2. Scotland’s best result was a hard fought narrow 6 - 8 defeat by Rob McNeil, Robert Scott,
            Billy Moffat & Willie Mair.
The other match of the round saw Wales facing Ireland but the Welsh could not repeat
their victory over England and lost 46 - 31 to Ireland. PJ McCrossan, Alan Morrison, Kevin &
Gerard Conroy once again turned in a fine performance for a 12 - 5 win. Colm McHugh, Pauline
Beattie Mark & Jonnie Wilson won 13 7 and Colm McHugh, Pauline Beattie Mark & Jonnie Wil-
son won 10 - 7 taking only four of the ten ends. Making sure it wasn’t a clean sweep for Ireland,
Andrew Hudson, Jonathan Gladstone, Dorian Hudson & Lisa Rees scored a brilliant six on the
last but one end of their game to level the scores at 11 all and followed up with a single for a 12
            - 11 victory.
