In the final round Wales faced Scotland and England faced Ireland. This was the same
as last year were England beat Ireland and won the team title despite losing to Wales. 25
However, it would have needed some freak shots results for wales to win the title if Eng-
land beat Ireland but Wales only won 51 - 28 against Scotland and this was not enough.
Almost half of these shots came from Stephen Williams, Luke Haddon, Chris Martin &
Michael John who won 17 - 6 despite only winning half of the ten ends. Peter Rees, Allan Slat-
tery, Edward Rees & Henry John weighed in with a 12 - 3 result and Tom Jones, Martyn Davies,
Arwel Morgan& Paul Hudson won 12 - 7 despite dropping a five along the way. Once again
proving they were a tough nut to crack Rob McNeil, Robert Scott, Billy Moffat & Willie Mair edged
            home 12 - 10 for Scotland’s only victory.
England once again hoped to beat Ireland and take the team tile but it was not to be as
they lost 46 - 32. Ryan O’Neil, David Morrison, Raymond & Gordon Stubbs proved to be Ireland’s
best rink in this match with a 13 - 5 victory, having led 13 - 1 with two ends to go. PJ McCrossan,
Alan Morrison, Kevin & Gerard Conroy were next best with a 14 - 8 win and Colm McHugh,
Pauline Beattie Mark & Jonnie Wilson also won by six shots at 10 - 4. Probably England’s best
rink overall on the weekend were Roger Wiggins, Ben Pay, Peter Hore & AJ Brown and kept
their corner up with a 15 - 9 win after coming back from 2 - 9 over the closing three ends scoring
            4 - 4 - 5.
Ireland also scored the most points across all the games in the weekend, including the in-
dividual event and when added together the also duly also took the McDermott Bowl in the sec-
ond year the trophy has been played for.
A great weekend and my thanks to Potters Leisure for the Team photos shown on the
photo gallery page. All other photos were taken by me. Thanks also to Keith Hawkins for parting
with the scorecards, which certainly helped in compiling the article. Top moment of the weekend?
This was Chris Hopkins trio taking the Triples Title. I remember Chris head buried and on his
knees losing the World Fours title on the last end with the last bowl against another England
four in 1998, my last tournament as Manager. Congratulations Chris, you have earned this title
to go with your three National Triples wins and hopefully it won’t be the last you win.
